What is a Gurdwara?
A Sikh Gurdwara, meaning "gateway to the Guru," is a sacred place of worship for the Sikh community. Central to Sikhism, Gurdwaras serve as spiritual and communal hubs where followers gather to engage in prayer, meditation, and the recitation of holy scriptures, primarily the Guru Granth Sahib. Gurdwaras are characterized by their distinct architectural features, including a prominent central prayer hall, often adorned with ornate decorations and domes. Open to people of all backgrounds, Gurdwaras emphasize the principles of equality, humility, and community service. Visitors are welcomed with open arms, and communal meals, known as langar, are a common practice, reinforcing the Sikh values of selfless service and inclusivity. The Gurdwara stands as a symbol of unity, devotion, and the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment for the Sikh faith.
